Ideas for your Christmas Brunch or Christmas Dinner
Who of us doesn't want to
cook like our favorite celebrity chefs? I know that I do. I always want
to try new recipes and incorporate new flavors into old dishes. However,
the most important lesson that I have learned over the years is your
guests won't remember every single dish you cook so it's best to let two
or three dishes shine.
If you've made a fabulous Madeira gravy from our recipe, stick with simple
buttered mashed potatoes. If you're having candied sweet potatoes and
brussel sprouts with prosciutto and parmesan serve your fresh green beans
simply blanched. There is nothing wrong with incorporating new recipes
and flavors into your old Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner menus, but
don't go overboard. Everything you cook doesn't need something added to
it.
Some families get together for a Christmas Brunch,
some get together for Christmas Dinner.
Our family does both!
Christmas Brunch Menu:
We enjoy our Christmas Brunch.
We like the idea of not having to rush in the morning. By brunch time
everyone has had a chance to relax and open some gifts at their homes.
We meet at my mother-in-laws home and everyone brings a dish. We have
all the usuals, toast, bagels, eggs, pancakes, french toast, bacon and
sausage. We've got some great ideas for you, including an Egg & Sausage
Scramble Casserole, Grand Marnier French Toast and "21" Club
Hash Browns. One of our
recent favorites is a Classic Crumb Cake recipe given to us by our friend
Alice Smith. We start our brunch around 10A and it goes on until we're
all filled-up.
Christmas Dinner Menu:
Our family meets at my sister-in-laws
for Christmas dinner. Since we've just had turkey for our Thanksgiving
dinner and the majority in our family like lamb we generally have lamb
as our main meat course for Christmas dinner. We enjoy our Creme de Menthe
Leg of Lamb. We also enjoy an Apricot and Bourbon Pork Tenderloin. We
always cook a glazed ham for those who don't care for the lamb or the
pork tenderloin.
What about those special Christmas
cookies & desserts? We've got plenty of them too including
a fabulous Red Velvet Cake Recipe.

This spicy green bean recipe is taken from Madhur Jaffrey's Far Eastern Cookery book. She says in her cookbook that she got this recipe from a "long-toothed lady with a food stall ensconced right in the middle of the Weekend Market in Bangkok." We make this colorful and spicy dish when we're in the mood for something with a bit of heat. We would highly recommend you get fish sauce for this recipe.
Holiday green bean casserole recipe
Everyone's favorite holiday green bean recipe. Anyone who cooks, and everyone who has ever eaten a Thanksgiving dinner is familiar with that old favorite the green bean casserole. What could be more simple, frozen or canned green beans, cream of mushroom soup and canned dried onions. Just try to find canned dried onions within three days of Thanksgiving in any foodstore - good luck. Campbell's came up with this creamy/crunchy concoction in 1955.
