Food Traditions
We love the holiday season at
my house. Like many other families we have many food traditions centered
around the holidays. Some of the traditions date back 40+ years, such
as my sister and I along with our Gram making stuffed rolled dates for
Dad and tasty gingerbread cookies. Another tradition that dates back almost
50 years in our family is the classic Red
Velvet Cake.
Another is my mother's glazed baked ham. It's a tradition that I still continue,
studding the ham with whole cloves, decorating it with pineapple rings and
cherry's and glazing it with a mixture of brown sugar, pineapple juice,
whole grain mustard and orange juice. Here is a classic Pineapple
Glazed Ham recipe from Epicurious.
We're making plenty of new
family traditions too. I've included one our our newest traditions, although
it goes back almost 20 years or so. It's the famous (or infamous)
Mrs. Field's Cookies. My sister and I got together to make this recipe.
I'll never forget the first time I made them, they turned out fabulously.
Perhaps you're planning on
cooking a turkey for your Christmas dinner and have any questions we're
here to help. We can help teach you how to roast a turkey and keep is
moist and make it flavorful. We've got a fabulous turkey stuffing recipe
and a recipe for homemade turkey gravy. You can check out all of our turkey
recipes and turkey
tips here.
Part of the magic of
the holidays is making new traditions as well as honoring the old ones.

Thanksgiving Dinner
Last Thanksgiving was the first Thanksgiving meal I've ever cooked, at the tender age of 48. I'd always had a parent's house to go to, or a friends house, or had gone to a restaurant/buffet for Thanksgiving with friends. I am now married and between my mother-in-law, my sister-in-law and myself we decided that I'd be responsible for Thanksgiving dinner. Luckily there are only eight of us.
How to freeze fresh green beans
If you've been spoiled like me eating fresh green beans and dread the end of the season and going back to factory frozen or canned green beans, you should know that freezing green beans is the easiest way to have them year round. Many people prefer to freeze green beans as opposed to canning them. Freezing is much less time consuming and requires fewer tools. Canning requires jars, lids, and a pressure cooker.
