going to take liberty to call these simple to make Christmas candy's Dad's Sweet
Stuffed Dates, cause when I was a child that's what they were. 40+ years ago our
Gram (my father's mother), my sister and I would make these every year. We'd carefully
package them in a white box with waxed paper. We knew that he knew what was in
that white box and he looked forward to them every year.
I was thinking back on this recipe I looked online for it. I never realized there
may be a Middle Eastern influence with this recipe. I guess the use of the peanut
and granulated sugar was an Americanized version. A Middle Eastern twist would
be to stuff the dates, or Medjools as they are called, with almonds, pecans or
walnuts and roll them in powdered sugar.
